B.Ed. stands for an undergraduate academic course known as Bachelor of Education. Earlier it was known as Bachelor of Training (BT). It is a course offered for those who are interested in pursuing career in teaching and related fields. Also referred as ‘Bachelor in Education’ or in some universities as Magadh university, Patna University, Aryabhatta University..etc. its duration generally lasts 2 years. Bachelor of Education Course can also be pursued through Correspondence or Distance Learning which is generally of 2 Years duration. While students from Arts Stream are trained to teach subjects like History, Civics, Geography and Languages. The students from Science Stream are trained to teach Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. The B.Ed. degree course is mandatory for teaching in higher primary schools,Middle School and high schools. National Council for Teacher Education is statutory body which regulates courses in teaching in India. D.El.Ed is a 2-year full-time diploma course which is divided into 4 semesters. Candidates who have qualified 10+2 or equivalent examination from any recognized board with a minimum of 50% marks are eligible to apply.
Admission process for the course comprises an entrance exam followed by a round of personal interview. D.El.Ed. Syllabus for the same varies from one college to another. All candidates who qualify the entrance exam are called for an interview. Based on the candidate's performance in the entrance exam, personal interview and marks obtained, he/she will be provided admission into the course.
D.El.Ed. course plays a significant role in laying the foundation for further learning through a series of supervised experiences. It is important that teachers acquire proper training in order to handle children at the elementary level. The study includes all major aspects of education field. Along with the theoretical part, they also go through practical training.
The curriculum of D.El.Ed. course is divided into two parts: General course and subject disciplines. Syllabus disciplines are further divided into subject content courses and method courses. They prepare teachers with broad knowledge of the subject areas and the latter includes principles for child development, education practice, study of school pedagogy and the role of teacher in the grooming of students
